LAZISMU is a national-level zakat institution that is committed to community empowerment through the productive utilization of zakat funds, infaq, waqf and other generous funds from individuals, institutions, companies and other institutions. Lazismu was established by PP Muhammadiyah in 2002, then confirmed by the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia as the National Amil Zakat Institution through Decree no. 457/21 November 2002.
The establishment of LAZISMU according to PP Muhammadiyah consists of two factors. First, the fact that Indonesia is covered with widespread poverty, ignorance and a very low index of human development. All of them result in and at the same time due to the weak social justice order. Secondly, zakat is believed to be able to contribute in promoting social justice, human development and able to alleviate poverty. As the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia has the potential of zakat, infaq and waqf which is quite high. However, the existing potentials can not be managed and utilized optimally so as not to have a significant impact on solving the existing problems. The establishment of LAZISMU is intended as a zakat management institution with modern management that can deliver zakat to be part of the social problem solver (problem solver) that continues to grow.
Based on this background, Muhammadiyah University of Sidoarjo (UMSIDA) opened the Office of Lazismu Service (KLL) by inviting all lecturers and employees to give zakat gross income of 2.5% every month. Zakat from the income according to the secretary of KLL UMSIDA Abdul Haris Effendie, S.Pd.I, “Zakat income is distributed to 8 Asnaf namely the poor, amil, traveler, muallaf, ghorim, freeing slaves and fi sabilillah. This is in line with the letter at-taubah verse 60 which means that the real zakat is only for the poor, the poor, the administrators of zakat, the mu’allaf who is persuaded by their hearts, to (liberate) the slaves, the people Those who are indebted, for the cause of Allah and for them yuang are on the way, as a required provision of Allah, and Allah is All-knowing, All-Wise.
The verse has the meaning that those who are entitled to receive Zakah is: 1. the needy: the person who is very miserable his life, has no wealth and energy to fulfill his life. 2. the poor: people who are not sufficiently livelihood and in a state of deprivation. 3. Zakat management: the person assigned to collect and share the zakat. 4. Muallaf: the infidels who have hope of converting to Islam and new converts to Islam whose faith is still weak. 5. liberate slaves: include also to release Muslims who are held captive by unbelievers. 6. the person owed: the person owed for the benefit of the non-immoral and unable to pay it. As for the person who owes to maintain the unity of the Muslims is paid the debt with zakat, although he can afford it. 7. in the way of Allah (sabilillah): That is for the defense of Islam and the Muslims. Among the mufasirin there are those who argue that fisabilillah it includes also public interests such as establishing schools, hospitals and others. 8. a man on a non-immoral journey suffers misery on his journey.
In addition to Zakat, Haris said, “KLL UMSIDA also received infaq and shodaqoh from various parties to be distributed to many parties such as victims of natural disasters of Lamongan, Tuban and Bojonegoro, Baksos in Sumenep and Pacitan until the incidental channeling is providing scholarships for students unable.
